What You Can Expect on Your First Visit to FBC Lyman

What you wear to our services really is not that important to us. We just want you to come and worship with us so dress comfortably.
You will be greeted by a friendly face who will do their very best to make you feel right at home with our family of faith. If you have any question about the facilities or the location of your Sunday School class just ask. Any of our members will be happy to assist you in any way.
You will be welcomed into a Sunday School class where Christian fellowship and love are valued. We have classes designed for every age group. All of our teachers are where they are because they love the Lord and have felt His directing of their hearts to lead the class.
- Entering the Worship Service:
Upon entering the lobby you will be given a bulletin that explains our order of worship for both the morning and evening services as well as any announcements. Also, if you have small children there will be a basket of fun bags stocked with tinker toys, crayons, books to keep their little hands busy during the service. Feel free to pick one up. Just be sure to return them to the basket after dismissing. There is also a nursery located in the youth building run by a paid nursery worker and volunteers for the smallest little ones up to 4yrs of age.
Shortly after entering the sanctuary you will hear the instrumentalist begin the prelude. This signals the beginning of the music part of the service. Our worship leader will lead you and the rest of the congregation to worship through a blend of traditional and modern hymns and praise choruses. This part of the service is really focused on leading the congregation to the throne of God where we can receive His word.
The music portion of the worship service will be brought to a close after the choir and or a soloist sings one last special song. The pastor will then direct the congregation to a text of scripture from the Bible. He will explain the text and what it means for us in today's context. The pastor will be working hard to be very clear, so be sure to listen for how the scripture might apply to you.
Toward the end of the sermon the pastor will give you some specific instructions on how you should respond to what God has said in His word. He will close the sermon in prayer and the worship leader will then lead the congregation in one last hymn. During this time God will be speaking to your heart. We pray that you will be obedient in responding to Him. The pastor will be down front during this time if you need prayer or you can use the altar area (the steps around the stage) to pray alone if you would like. Also if there is any decision that you have made in your heart that you would like to make public among the brothers and sisters of faith, then you may come down and do that at this time.

Announcements and Closing Prayer
The Pastor will conclude the invitation after everyone has had the opportunity to respond. Announcements will be made regarding upcoming events. Listen for how you may be able to get involved in different ministries that are going on at First Baptist Lyman. The pastor will call on a member to dismiss the service with a closing prayer.
